Congo African Grey Parrot - Psittacus Erithacus
The grey parrot (Psittacus Erithacus), also known as the Congo grey parrot or African grey parrot, is an Old World parrot in the family Psittacidae.
The grey parrot is a medium-sized, predominantly grey, black-billed parrot. Its typical weight is 400 g (0.88 lb), with a length around 13 inches and a wingspan of 18–20 inches. It has darker grey over the head and both wings, while the head and body feathers have a slight white edge to them. The tail feathers are red. Due to selection by parrot breeders, some grey parrots are partly or completely red. Both sexes appear similar. The colouration of juveniles is similar to that of adults, but the eye is typically dark grey to black, in comparison to the yellow irises around dark eyes of the adult birds.The undertail coverts are also tinged with grey. The adults weigh 0.922–1.160 lbs.
Grey parrots may live for 40–60 years in captivity, although their mean lifespan in the wild appears to be shorter at about 23 years.
In 2019 the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (known as CITES) moved the African Grey parrot from a list of threatened species to the list of endangered species. This drastically reduced the number of baby greys that can be removed from the wild and imported into the United States. African Greys are now difficult to find in the retail channels, and the price has risen accordingly. We're honored to have 4 pairs of these beautiful birds in our breeding program.

This is Zoe and Dexter. They are in their early to mid-teens, and are prime breeding age. They are also chatter boxes. Each morning when we check on them we are greeted with "Good Morning" and "Hello". Zoe tells me the secrets of the universe, at least according to her. I can't always understand what she's saying, but she certainly has a lot on her mind. Zoe likes to remind me not to swear, by swearing herself.
Merlin and Miss B joined us in 2020. Merlin in an older male, and Miss B is younger but mart enough for breeding. They have been given their first nest box so we hope they will breed for us.
In 2021, Pax and Baby arrived. They are a strange pair. Baby screams a lot when she sees people, but Pax is just quiet and laid back. They were both proven with previous mates, so we hope that in time they will give us some beautiful babies.
As part of our acquisition of AZ Parrots in the summer of 2022, we added Diamond and Smokey. They are proven and consistently give two clutch of chicks each year. Usually in the late spring and again in the late fall. In 2022 they gave us 7 amazing babies.
