Boo Boo - Buffon's Macaw - Ara Ambiguus
Boo is a 17 year old male Buffon's Macaw, also called the Grand Military, or the Great Green Macaw. His official name is Boo Bear, but he calls himself Boo Boo, so that's what we stick with. Due to the rarity of the species, we would ultimately like to breed him to do our part in their survival. Unfortunately he's had a rough time with a previous owner and breeding may not be an option for him. Even though he was hand raised, he no longer trust humans and he has no self confidence.
Boo Boo now shares a cage with Natcho. They provide a good balance for each other. When Boo Boo first arrived all he would do was sit on his cage and not move. We think he may have been abused and was just terrified of doing anything out of fear. Natcho taught him to play with toys and to just be a silly bird again. Natcho has a big personality and Boo Boo taught her to tone it down and be calm. Sometimes she would get riled up over something and he would put his foot on top of hers as if to say "Relax"
After a long search with a lot of dead ends, we decided to place Boo Boo with a breeder that has a female Buffons. He left us in May of 2023 to join a beautiful girl that's close in age. Hopefully they will make some beautiful babies together and help perpetuate the species.
